A high priority for the new play area is to ensure it is accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities, with ‘inclusive’ play and wheelchair access at the forefront of the design objectives.

In preparation for the works, Crawley Borough Council Patch Teams undertook some horticultural improvements including alterations to the grass areas and shrub bed layouts adjacent to the play area and also removing unwanted vegetation surrounding the space. The work has improved the overall look of the area, increased visibility and will support the council’s efforts to improve maintenance routines; it will also assist in the management of pests.

Installation of the new play equipment and fencing will begin in September with the aim to complete the work by Christmas.

Also forming part of this project is the relocation of the former Queens Square mosaic as well as the installation of a new drinking fountain, these features will be incorporated into the surrounding landscape design and will be installed at a similar time to the play equipment.
